4 or 5 Ys ago I also built my snowshoes myself together with my
friend. In these times snowshoes were _really_ exotic things and
even very simple ones could only be ordered in the US. The
prices were twice of today.
My friend had a book with the plans. The only difficult thing
was to get AL tubes that resist temperatures below -10 degrees
and to bow it into the right form. My friend is a machanical
engineer and has all the machines he needed for it. I just asked
him for the book that contains the plans.
The tubes for one pair cost ca. 30 Euros. My friend ordered the
tubes via his former employer, a big factory for car gearboxes.
Now this connection is broken. I do not know where to get this
special material and at what prices.
It was 5 hours work in addition. So if you are not unemployed
building snowshoes is not worth the work. Better try to get some
used if you want to save your money.
HTH, Rainer
P.S.: Sorry for shattering your illusions.
